Drag to compare. Staged example made from a 1940 public-domain photo.
Made for real family photos: the ones in shoeboxes, albums and frames.

Scratches, tears, dust, stains and fading cleaned up, and blur sharpened. Faces, clothes and poses stay the way they were.

Natural, realistic colors that suit the photo's era. The colors are the AI's best guess, so they may differ from the real ones.

A 4-second moving portrait with small, gentle movement: a blink, a breath, a soft smile. Ready to share with family.

Family photos are personal. The app is built to keep as little as possible, for as short as possible.
Your first restore (or restore and colorize) is free. After that, credits come in packs you buy once through Google Play: 1 credit per photo, 10 per video. There is no subscription and there are no ads.
The app tells the AI to keep every face, age, expression and pose exactly the same. AI is not perfect: if a result looks wrong, tap Report on the result so we can look at it.
A clear scan or a sharp, straight photo of the print, in good light and without glare. Faces that are not too small give the best videos.
Only photos you have the right to use, such as your own family photos. Google's AI does not process photos of children in the EU, the UK or Switzerland; if a photo is blocked, your credit comes back.
If a restore, colorize or video fails or is blocked, the credit (or your free restore) is returned automatically.
Credits belong to the app on your phone. Tap "Save with Google" in Your credits to keep them, then tap it again on your new phone.
